"Sure it is, I'm sure there's all sorts of scandal in the three thousand people that live here." Bella murmured sarcastically, a small smile breaking through her lips. Edward had smiled when he said that, and it was probably the first time she'd seen him smile, bar the few half ones before. He hadn't even spoken to her before, in fact, he'd been downright rude, with the staring, and the not talking to her and... and... well. There would have been more things, but Bella couldn't think of them not, not think of a single thing except that she was... glad, he was talking to her now, it was like she could forget all of that, and just say he'd not noticed her. Only, no one didn't notice her, much to Bella's disappointment. Randa relished the attention, as she always had, where Bella wished to slink into the shadows. Suffering in silence was her scene, and so all of this; Eric, Mike, Tyler was just too wrong for her. Edward seemed like the cool, unconfrontational loner she'd always been herself, only just too... perfect. It was true, everyone at school had flaws, bad personality points, bad hair days and zits, but in the few days, he hadn't, the only thing was, he and his family sat away from everyone else. Yet- there were the odd things, his changing eyes, his changing temperament, it scared her, and confused her. Then again, she was permanently confused at this point in time.
A small smirk rose to her lips as he said he had time. Everyone had time, everyone always did, but she never told. The story couldn't be told without her emotions, and she didn't tend to open up to people, even random strangers who just happened to go to her school and sit in Biology next to her. But, careless as she was, the story had come tumbling out anyway, in it's simplest form. "God, maybe I should see a shrink..." she thought to herself as this ran through her head. She was insane to herself, god knows what she seemed like to Edward. “Well you might think it was a bad thing, but I am glad that you came here, it brightens this little town of Forks”. This statement was odd. Edward hadn't acknowledged her arrival in Forks until now, and she'd been so sure he detested her. Her arrival had stirred up a lot of the school community, but the Cullen and Hale table had seemed to be the only one it hadn't reached, the arrival of the new girl however, seemed to have brought up some sort of rift for them all, as well as the new tall guy today. Now, then, she'd seen Edward mad, as she'd watched him from their table, looking away when he caught her, secretly embarrassed when Jessica pointed out that he was staring back, and when a small giggle had wrapped her lips, when pointing out 'None of the girls are good looking enough for him.' Obviously jealousy and rejection played a deep part in this, and he was too perfect anyway, so what came next was a huge surprise.
"You, what?" Bella stated in awe, as he told her the short- obviously edited version of his story, and then about it getting better. "W-what made it..." she trailed off, Edward's next two statements seemingly explaining it. No, she was insignificant, she wouldn't have made a huge mark in his life, she couldn't have. Could she? His words were a whisper, his expression an intent, gentle glare settled on her face, never moving from it, no matter how many times she tried to stop meeting his gaze, threading the blade of grass between her fingers inbetween each other, a silence coming between them until she felt the lightest pressure on her cheek, the lightest, coldest touch. "Your hands are freezing," she murmured, catching Edward's hand as it finished the stroke. It was like ice, so she let it drop, a chill running through her body. Bella was pretty warm now, in her fleecy jacket, but, but, Edward should be dead if he was that temperature. He should be, it wasn't possible. Yet another thing to add to her list of things about him that made her curious, that she should ask about, if they were having a revealing session.
The following silence was tense as Bella thought of how to reply to the two statements. Edwards words seemed to be thought over before he spoke, so refined was the language and accurate, like no one spoke anymore. Bella, mumbled and stuttered and didn't speak, mainly because she kept to herself, like Charlie a lot, their household- were it not for Miranda- would be very quiet. "I'm hardly beautiful, and, but, you're just... different to everyone else. Your eyes change, you're graceful, you're white as snow and as cold as it too, you talk like in old movies, not like everyone from this generation does. It's... different, I've never seen anyone like you..." The words came rushed, the words blurting out without knowledge nor vetting by her non-functioning brain. A moment later, they caught up with her, and she swallowed hard, her cheeks flowering the red blush again. She blushed too much, it was a telltale sign of her emotions. Damn it. "Why would you be interested in me? You never seemed like it at school, in fact the opposite. A-and adorable? You're insane, you must be, you're insane." the last bit was said with resignation, as she shook her head slightly strands of hair flowing out in the light breeze. The volumous mess that was her hair too, moved with her, though it was tucked inside the high neck of the jumper. A small smile, too, had appeared on her face, a bitter one at that. Mocking herself for confiding in a stranger, one that contradicted everything he said, all he did, all he was. If it was up to anyone else, Edward would be walking down catwalks on world fashion stages, New York, Milan, Paris, London, but yet he was in Forks High School, and talking to her in the meadow right now.
